We have a longstanding interest in graphical representations of quantitative (and qualitative ) data and came upon an interesting thread on the American Evaluation Association discussion. One poster to the thread in question is owner of a great blog on the subject that we just had to note.
As is always the case on the web, a visit to this blog led to a visit to the blogs and websites it referenced, and then to the blogs and websites those sites referenced. We came upon a book entitled “The Flaw of Averages” (no, ‘Flaw’ is not a typo– what a great title) and it got us thinking about a post we did called “Distributions” about the problem of focusing on averages rather than the way in which a set of data is distributed. (Note to Self: Time to revisit this topic).
